摘要:In 2003, Professor Sven Gustavsson became Professor Emeritus. He had at that time held the Chair of Slavic Languages at Uppsala University since 1977. In 1969, he defended his doctoral thesis at Stockholm University; the topic was historical accentology, although the corpus consisted of contemporary material from Bulgarian, Macedonian and Serbo-Croatian dialect descriptions. Since then, his research and interests within the field of Slavic Studies has covered a wide variety of topics: the use of the short and long form of adjectives in predicative function in modern Russian, Solzhenitsyn‟s language, the poetry of the Serbian writer Vasko Popa and the Polish writer Wisława Szymborska, to name just a few. His most recent research project is entitled “Language and Ethnicity: Linguistic Differentiation and Attitudes towards Language in Bosnia and Herzegovina.” This project is part of Gustavsson‟s interest in sociolinguistics (or what he prefers to call political linguistics), a field that increasingly came to receive his attention from the 1970s onwards and has resulted in much research on minorities and the situation of minority languages, both in his native Sweden and in Slavic countries. Worthy of special mention is his work on the Rusyn minority and language in Yugoslavia. These studies of minorities and minority languages have also led to his involvement in the creation of the Centre for Multiethnic Research (now The Hugo Valentin Centre) at Uppsala University – to which most of his current research has been linked. Gustavsson was also active in the work of the Baltic University Programme, a network consisting of approximately 140 universities in the Baltic Sea region.
