摘要:The analysis of hydraulic behaviour of waterdistribution networks (WDNs) is prime part of the planningand augmentation of any water supply projects. In additionto the hydraulic behaviour, water quality analysis is alsoessential to safeguard the consumer from the water-bornediseases. The quality of water varies from the treatmentplant to the consumer’s tap due to physical, chemical andbiological phenomena. Due to low cost and effectiveness,chlorine is a chemical choice as disinfectant in manycountries including India. Chlorine residuals decreases fromwater treatment plant to the consumer’s tap due to variousreasons including bulk decay of chlorine, wall decay,coliform regrowth or potential for biofilm formation withinthe system. It is found that there are higher and lowerresidual chlorine concentrations of water to the nearby andfar-off nodes respectively from the reservoir. So the boosterlocations are identified and introduced to maintain thedesired residual chlorine concentrations of water to all nodesand at different times. It also reduces the total amount ofchlorine required for the disinfection. In this study, theamount of chlorine required for disinfecting the watersupply without and with booster stations are analyzed.Incorporation of the booster station further reduces theamount of chlorine required for variable demand pattern ascompared to constant demand pattern. It is found that thevariable demand pattern has significant advantages overconstant demand pattern.
