摘要:To estimate the potential impact of global climate change an improved knowledge of the carbon cycle and its variability is essential. In response to an announcement of the German Aerospace Center (DLR) for a national Earth observation mission, the Friedrich- Schiller University Jena and the JenaOptronik GmbH proposed the EO-mission C ARBON -3D. The data products of this multi sensor mission will for the first time accurately estimate above-ground biomass, one of the most important parameters of the carbon cycle. This mission will simultaneous acquire data with a multi-angle optical instrument and with NASAs Lidar system VCL (Vegetation Canopy Lidar). The second instrument onboard Carbon-3D is a BRDF-imager that extrapolates the laser-retrieved height profiles to biophysical vegetation maps using the horizontal, spectral information as well as multidirectional information. This innovative mission will greatly reduce uncertainties about net effects of deforestation and forest re-growth on atmospheric CO 2 concentrations and will also provide key biophysical information for biosphere models (DVMs – Dynamic Vegetation Models).
