摘要:The paper presents results from several pilot studies on the application of terrestrial laser scanning in forest inventory tasks with thegoal of automatically determining inventory-relevant tree parameters. The basic data sets have been provided using two differentterrestrial laser scanners, one based on the time of flight distance measuring technique and the other one based on phasemeasurement technology. The first part of the paper briefly introduces the two instruments and compares them regarding theirsuitability for forestry applications. Based on a large number of mixed forest plots, accuracy and handling of the laser scanners weretested. Furthermore a method for the automatic detection of the approximate position of trees will be presented. Co-ordinates of theapproximate positions and the number of trees in the plots are a result of the first algorithm. In a second step all located trees will beseparated and the DBH (diameter of a tree in 1.3m), the profiles along the stem and their height will be determined automatically.Finally the results of analysis of some plots are presented
