  • 摘要:Background: As in the case of deteriorating items, expiration plays a major role in inventory management, a generalized approach is studied based on an inventory model for deteriorating items with expiration dates. Methods: In this paper, the demand rate during the cycle time is assumed to be trapezoidal. Shortages are allowed and partially backlogged. An inventory replenishment strategy is formulated for trapezoidal demand rates and backlogging rates in general for retailers; with the support of fundamental concepts of calculus. Results: The method is illustrated with the support of numerical examples along with sensitivity analysis with respect to major parameters. Conclusion: This generalized approach provides a platform to develop a strategy using different demand functions and backlogging rates.
