摘要：The translation of culture-bound elements could be a very important taskdue to the fact that such elements have specific meanings in the culture and languagein which they arise but not necessarily in others. Regarding this, the present studyshowed the strategies used in translation of culture-bound elements in the Englishsubtitles of the Iranian film ‘a segregation’ and the frequency of such strategies.These culture-bound elements were categorized based on the taxonomy presented byPedersen (2005). The data were gathered from the Persian movie a segregation whichwas subtitled into English. To gather the required data, the mentioned film was viewedand its original transcript was extracted. Then, the culture-bound elements of this filmwere detected and were compared with their English subtitles according to mentionedtaxonomy to identify the strategies used in translating them. Finally, the frequency ofthe employed strategies was studied in order to find which strategy has the highestpotential for conveying the intended meaning.
