摘要：As an introductory note to the study of the true meaning of impersonal constructions, existential sentences are observed in this article both in theii affirmative and negative variations. The observation is made on the basis of the hypotheses concerning semantic peculiarities of verbs, which have been proposed in a series of the previously published articles. It is pointed out, that the implication of a notion of “locus” is quite essential to the meanings of verba existentiae. In addition to the above mentioned hypotheses, still other two hypotheses are proposed anew in this article about the subject of impersonal sentences and the function and relle of genetive case of noun in these sentences. In conformity with the kind of verbs used, existential sentences are divided into three, i.e. into esse-type, dare-type and haberetype. These types are at first considered separately and then the relationships among these types as well as the differences between personal and impersonal constructions are also discussed.
