摘要：The aim of the present paper is to analyze the salient linguistic features of one of the most popular songs of Tagore : āguner paraśmaņi .The study is limited to the poetical framework of the song ; the musical aspect is excluded. The song is built on the underlying theme of purification of soul through suffering and pain, symbolized by the imagery of fire and the attainment of the state of enlightenment with the end of conflict of light and darkness. In this article through an in depth study of the constituent elements, we have tried to demonstrate how the theme has been developed at various levels : lexical, morpho-syntactic, semantic. Key Words : purification, light, darkness, Tgore’s song , linguistic features.
