摘要:In this investigation, we analyzed archival data from the administration of Advanced Placement exams for students residing in the United States between 1997 and 2012 to ascertain the extent to which ethnic/racial differences were present. Results of this study matched ethnic/racial differences reported in previous studies (Carpenter et al., 2006) and confirmed nuances of achievement, where Asian students outperformed White students who outperformed Hispanic students who in turn outperformed Black students. Consistently across all of the exam years, support for the claim that a clear pattern of stair-step achievement was confirmed. As a result of this study, the existence of a stair-step achievement gap postulated by Carpenter et al. (2006) was affirmed. Of concern was the high percentages of Hispanic and Black students who received poor scores on Advanced Placement exams.
