摘要：Wireless Sensor Networks are collection of numberof small and spatially distributed autonomous devices calledSensor Nodes. These nodes are able to sense, can docomputations and perform wireless communications but havelimited resources available for their operation. Due to this, therouting protocol of wireless sensor network must minimize theenergy consumption so as to increase the network lifetime. Forthis purpose, a number of routing techniques are employed.Here, we are mainly focusing on the hierarchical cluster basedrouting techniques. Many researchers have already proposeda number of distinct algorithms based on this technique. Inthis paper, we are providing an introduction to wireless sensornetworks, the need for reducing the energy consumption inwireless sensor networks and some of the alreadyimplemented energy efficient routing protocols for wirelesssensor networks.
