摘要:Soft steel i,e Mild Steel material is commonly used to produce automotive parts such as shafts, gears andbearings Machining this material significantly increases the temperature in the cutting zone and is critical in decidingworkpiece quality. The Taguchi optimization method is used with standard orthogonal array L27(3)3 .Surface quality is oneof the most impellent customer requirements in machining. The main aspect of surface quality on machined parts isprobably surface integrity, such as roughness and residual stresses.This paper optimizes multiple characteristics (cuttingspeed, feed rate and depth of cut) in CNC turning of Mild steel by high speed cutting tools. Three controllable factors of theturning process viz. cutting speed, feed and depth of cut, were studied. In this study, the Taguchi method a powerful tool forexperiment design is also used to optimize the cutting parameters to achieve better surface finish and to identify the mosteffective parameter for cost evolution during turning. Taking significant cutting parameters into consideration and usingmultiple linear regressions, mathematical model relating to the surface roughness height Rais established to investigate theinfluence of cutting parameters during turning. It is seen that the insert radius, feed rate, and depth of cut havedifferenteffects on the surface roughness.
