摘要：Biological monitoring of the marine part of coastal zone is crucial and has become an important issue to government policies. The aim of this work is to study structural c h aracteristics of Arraial do Cabo upwelling system, Southeastern coast of Brazil , and the variability of biochemical elements with chlorophyll a in upwelling regions . This study is part of the research developed to monitor the environmental impacts in coast al regions and to develop models to be used in coastal management . To assess this information, we applied complex networks to identify the structural characteristics of ecological networks and compared the results with our previous researches. We confirmed that networks are a useful tool to deeply understand environmental conditions. In addition, we deployed a support vector machine classifier of the water masses of the region of the study
