摘要:Tea is the most common beverage in the world. It is consu med mostly as green tea, oo long, or black tea. Depending on t he manufacturing process, different varieties of tea can be produced. As tea is o ne o f the mo st popular beverages, it could be a tremendously impo rtant source o f polyp heno lic constit uent s. Tea leaves are a so urce of polyp heno ls, especially catechins, which are k nown for their antio xidat ive activit y. Various studies suggest t hat polyphenolic compound s present in black tea are associated with beneficial effects in prevent ion o f cardiovascu lar diseases. In additio n, anti-aging, ant idiabetic and many o ther healt h beneficial effect s asso ciat ed with tea consumptio n have been reported. The review highlig hts the potential of black t ea, it s health benefits in terms of antio xidat ive, ant imutagenic and anticarcinogenic properties as well as protective agents against cardiovascular diseases
