Selected natural peaty bogs of the Horná Orava Protected Landscape Area, Slovakia were investigated for purpose of assess the diversity of soil nematode communities. During these investigations nineteen nematode species were recorded in Slovakia for the first time thus increasing a total number of soil nematodes previously recorded to 723. Many of them, including those previously recorded in Slovakia are characteristic and preferring wet soil conditions thought many species had low abundance. Though, a great nematode diversity related with a high number of nematode species including those newly reported suggest to the great valuable of the peat bogs ecosystems for the protection of soil nematode fauna in Slovakia.
