摘要:The DSM-5 (1) has placed certain well-known child and adolescent psychiatry conditions under the umbrella of 'neurodevelopmental disorders'. It includes intellectual disability, specific learning disability, communication disorders, autism spectrum disorders, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and neurodevelopmental motor disorders. Interestingly, ADHD that was earlier conceptualized as a 'disruptive behavior disorder' is now placed here. The features that govern inclusion in the neurodevelopmental disorder category are – the disorder manifests early in development; developmental deficits lead to impairment in personal, social, occupational and academic functioning; the deficits could be in the areas of learning, executive functions, social skills, or intellectual ability; these disorders frequently co-occur; and their clinical presentation is characterized by excesses or deficits and delays.
