摘要：O trabalho foi realizado em função da participação do autor em uma seção temática da Comissão de Carste da União Internacional de Geografia (IGU) durante o Congresso Internacional de Geografia ocorrido em agosto de 2014. O evento ocorreu na cidade de Cracóvia (Polônia) entre os dias 18 e 22 de agosto e como a maioria dos eventos dessa natureza contou com excursões técnicas antes, durante e depois do congresso. Assim sendo, para a elaboração do trabalho, que também serviu como um relatório técnico para o CNPq, o autor contou com o apoio do material disponibilizado pela comissão organizadora do evento bem como de outras fontes bibliográficas e suas próprias percepções de campo. Por fim, objetivou-se demonstrar como o carste da cidade sede e seu entorno foram a base no desenvolvimento daquela cidade.
其他摘要：The study was conducted due to the participation of the author in a thematic section of the Karst Commission from the International Geographical Union (IGU) during the International Geographical Congress held in August 2014. The event took place in Krakow (Poland) between 18 and August 22 and like most events of this nature included technical excursions before, during and after the congress. Thus, for the preparation of this paper work, which also served as a technical report for the CNPq, the author had the support of the material provided by the organizing committee of the event as well as other bibliographical sources, together with its own field perceptions. Finally, the paper aimed to demonstrate how the karst landscape of the host city and its surroundings were the base for developing the city.
