摘要:Evidence based medicine is essential for providing optimal health care. However, evidence based educational practice is lacking in health professions education including Physiology education. There is an existing body of learning theories such as Adult learning theory, Theory of constructivism, Theory of reflective practice and Experiential learning theorywhich can inform teaching- learning practices. The key learning principles emerging from these theories and their application in Physiology education are:Build on prior knowledge and skills by assessing prior experience and building new knowledge on it; Provide safe non-threatening environment for optimal learning to occur; Encourage active participation of the learner in the learning process; Provide relevant content and problem centred approach for the learner to value learning; Providing opportunities and support to learners for self-directed learning will make them lifelong learners; Timely and constructive feedback with reflections enhances learning; Address different learning styles by using a variety of Method. Teachers in Physiology and other disciplines can use the learning principles to inform their teaching-learning practices and enhance student learning. Key words: evidence based educational practice, learning theories, learning principles, application in physiology education
