摘要:We propose a method for modeling a three-dimensional thermal structure with a particular focus on the lower crust. Our method enables high-resolution modeling without heat flow data, but with earthquake hypocenter data in the crust and seismic attenuation data in the upper mantle. In our method, the temperature at the bottom of the seismogenic layer is estimated under the assumption that the bottom depth corresponds to a brittle-ductile transition zone.Next, the temperature beneath the Moho discontinuity is estimated using seismic attenuation data of the mantle and a few point temperature data inferred from mantle xenoliths. Finally, the temperatures between the two depths are linearly interpolated.Attempts to construct an actual model for the Japanese Islands are also described.
