  • 摘要:The scarcity of studies in rural areas prevents sanitary authorities manage relevant resources to create strategies to make their operations effectively and efficiently. This leads to the creation of limited sanitary systems and to environmental degradation by poor management of waste. This study presents the management, generation and potential use of solid waste generated in the rural community Vicente Guerrero, in Ensenada, Mexico. The study was conducted in two stages: first, the waste collection system was studied and second, a characterization study of domestic solid waste (DSW) was carried out. There is no material recovery in disposal site and waste is burned outdoors to control its volume. The per capita waste generation was estimated at 1.10 kg/person/day and the main components are food waste and plastic. There is potential for recovery for certain components of the DSW but there are no strategies by the municipal authority.
