摘要:‘Travel narrative’ has become the characterizing label of a genre that has maintained certain common features throughout history, despite the different molds it has had to adapt to depending on the periods and movements it finds itself in. The idea is to show what works have served as landmarks in its evolution, as well as to highlight the dialectic relationship between the genre and several cultural paradigms whose tracks can be traced within it. The chronicles of the Indies, for example, bear a Renaissance stamp. Additionally, the Enlightened twist and Romantic turn leave their mark on the genre in the establishment of the docere and an expansion of the genre molds in the case of the former (memoirs, collected letters, chronicles) and a conversion of the author’s voice as a decisive moment in the latter. All in all, ‘travel narrative’ has survived over time by adapting to different historical and cultural changes. Perhaps that is why it has been deemed a hybrid, interdisciplinary and with a notable ability to metamorphosize
