摘要:This article shows the relationship between the diary, as a literary genre, and the beginning of the new roman in José Martínez Ruiz, «Azorín», in a similar way than other Spanish writers of the '98 generation, as Baroja or Unamuno. Some characteristics of his style (the intimacy, the use of the first persone, the present tense, the simplificity, the fragmentary sintax, etc.) comes from this genre. This article also studies Azorín's works between 1897 to 1904 in order to show the presence of the autobiographic subject in all of his youthful production.
