The chemical components of so-called suberin in the cork-bark of Abemaki were studied. After the ether-extracted cork flour was treated with 3% Na2SO3 solution, the residues were saponified repetedly with an excess of 3% alcoholic caustic soda solution on the boiling water-bath. The whole alcoholic solution was then filtered off. The filtrate obtained was treated with the method proposed by ZETZSCHE, and the chemical components of suberin part were separated into eighteen fractions. Among the eighteen fractions, eight fractions were white powder or crystalline substances and the others were liquid or solid oil substances. From the test of the melting point and other chemical nature, the white powder or crystalline substances were considered to be following acid, namely, suberic, suberonic, phellonic, eicosandicarbonic.
