As a research on the heredity of forest-trees, some experiments on the artificial crosses between Hinoki (Chamaecyparis obtusa) and Sawar4 (C. plsifera) have been made since the spring of 1932. Last autumn, reasonable numbers of cones have been collected from the F1 plants, and so the hereditary characters of those cones and seeds were investigated morphologically. By the results obtained, it has been made clear that the cones and seeds of F1 plants show morphologically intermediate characters as compared with the cones and seeds of the parents obtained by artificial crosses. Furthermore, the genetical studies on the F2 plants from these seeds of F1 plants will be made in the future.
