Photographers have practiced adding noise (grain) to digital images as a means of image quality improvement. In our previous study, we have analyzed how a professional photographer adds noise to an image. We found amount and histogram shape of the noise depend on the pixel value of a pixel to which the noise is added. In this study, we examined the noise of B & W silver halide photographic systemandfound it has such dependency in common with that by the professional. We thinkthese might be one of the requirements for “good” noise.
