Nowadays, extensive studies on the subjective evaluation of images prepared by various image output methods are being carried out. We have applied principal components analysis to the evaluation of the image quality of photographic color print. By the analysis, three components have been found, the first corresponding to color (pinkishgreen), the second to lightness (bright-dark) and the third to tone (soft-contrastv). respectively. The weight distribution among the three components changed by the age of observers, although, no significant difference on the evaluations between the male and female was recognized.
