A preferred viewing illuminant for the Japanese-paper-albumen-print is examined. Among the test illuminants, CIE Illuminants D65, C, D50 and A and fluorescent lamp, CIE Illuminant A showed preferable result to the perceived puality of the Japanese-paper-albumen-print. The purpose of this paper is to analyze the reason of the above phenomenon by means of colorimetrical procedure. It was found that CIE Illuminant A provides observer's perception of not only reddish sepia tint but also higher saturation and lightness for viewing of the print. This observer's perception is also analytically predicted by examination of colorimetric parameters.
