The electric resistance strain gauges can be used to measure not only static strain, but varying strains, strains resulting from impact loads. And these gauges have very wide application. So, many researches have been published recently in our country. In the Technical Research Laboratory of Hitachi Shipbuilding & Engineering Co., Ltd., the authors have investigated to make the electric resistance strain gauge and the strain indicators which consist of the bridge circuit and the amplifier and so on, for the purpose of measuring the dynamic strain since the beginning of last year, and attained their purpose. This report describes the summary of the strain gauges and its indicator which the authors have made, and its some examples of application as follows. 1) The tensile test of a steel notched pulley. 2) The water pressure test of the cylinderliner of a marine Diesel engine. 3) The water pressure test of the liquid ammonium tank. 4) The measurement of the varying pressure of the scavenging air and exhaust gas of a marine diesel engine. 5) The measurement of the stress distribution over a certain section of an oil tanker during her lanuching with a good number of the eletcric resistance strain gauges.
