摘要:The schistosomiasis is considered a public health issue, mainly due to its high prevalence in developing countries like Brazil. The objective of this study is to identify the epidemiological portrait of schistosomiasis in Brazil, in the interval from 2017 to 2021. This is a descriptive epidemiological study, whose data were obtained by the Informatics Department of the Unified Health System (DATASUS), at the electronic address (http://www.datasus.gov.br), in addition to PUBMED and SCIELO databases, referring to the period from 2017 to 2021. The data obtained from DATASUS were reorganized into charts and analyzed later. It was observed that, in the last 5 years, the number of hospitalizations for schistosomiasis in Brazil, for all types of care, presents a higher incidence in the Northeast region (48.46%), in addition to the character of care belonging mostly to urgency (88.56%). In the sample analyzed, it was found that 40.83% are women and 59.17% are men. As for the age group, a predominance of hospitalizations in adults in the 20-69 age group was certified, with a peak of 60-69 years (15.62%). Therefore, the findings of the high prevalence of schistosomiasis in urgency care in Brazil, especially in males and in the economically active age group of the population, reveal the need to intensify prevention practices and correct and early diagnosis, based on the Brazilian Society of Hepatology.
