摘要:Effects of the composition variations of thiocyanate and thiosulfate as fixing agents in a P-Q monobath on the development curve and the distribution of image in depth were investigated. At the same mixing ratio or the same thiocyanate content, when the total concentration of fixing agents was raised to increase the rate of fixing, the initiation and the rate of development were slow down and the period of silver growth was reduced. From the observation of cross sections of processed films, nothing image developed at the top of the emulsion layer from the monobath process, and this phenomenon apeared more remarkably when the total concentration of fixing agents was increased. When thiocyanate was added from 0 to 0.5 mole/l in the thiosulfate-monobath (thiosulfate content was 0.2 mole/l), an increase in added thiocyanate led to a shorter period of silver growth, but the initiation of development was unchanged and the rate of development was increased in spite of an increase in the rate of fixing. There were little difference between cross sections from the variation of added thiocyanate. In view of above facts, it can be presumed that fixing agents in a monobath react with exposed grains faster than developing agents, and that thiocyanate acts not only as a fixing agent, but also as an effective accelerator for both the direct and solution-physical development. Effects of the composition variations of fixing agents on the mechanism of development and fixation in the monobath process are discussed.
