摘要:Sensitized photodecomposition of benzoylazide by benzophenone and acetophenone was studied. When benzophenone was used as the sensitizer, the apparent quantum yields of the decomposition of benzoylazide in an isopropanol solution and an ethanol solution were 12.6 and 6.0, respectively. The reaction products were benzamide, acetone, and a small amount of benzpinacol in an isopropanol solution. Measurements of the phosphorescence spectra suggested that the triplet energy transfer from the sensitizer to benzoylazide did not occur. Radical chain reaction initiated by the hydrogen abstraction from a solvent molecule by a triplet state sensitizer would be the most reasonable mechanism of the sensitized photoreaction.
