摘要:In the course of the studies on the chromogenic development, it was observed that when a magenta emulsion layer of color photographic paper, into which a pyrazolone coupler protected by a plasticizer was incorporated, was hardened by formalin, one of the most useful hardeners for gelatin, the developed image showed no magenta, but unexpected reddish-brown color, although the normal magenta-colored image was obtained in the same layer when hardened by another hardener.Separation of the pyridine extracts form the anomalously colored magenta layer by means of thin layer chromatography made it clear that considerable amounts of a fluorescent yellow dye were formed during the processing as a by-product besides the ordinary magenta pyrazolone azo-methine dye.Chemical and spectroscopic analyses of the isolated yellow dye indicated that this was one of azomethine dyes derived from a pyrazolone coupler, formaldehyde and a color-developing agent, having a chemical structure below:_??_Finally, the assumed mechanisms for the yellow dye formation were described to account for this anomalous behavior.
