摘要:Introduction: Spinal anesthesia, one of the main tools in the surgical context, provides great advantages in its use, however, some considerations about possible side effects and complications should be taken into account. Objective: The present study aimed to evaluate the use of spinal anesthesia in several surgical situations, elucidating positive and negative points. Materials and Methods: This is a literature review about the use of spinal anesthesia as an anesthetic procedure. The PICO strategy was used to develop the guiding question. Furthermore, the descriptors "Spinal anesthesia"; "Anesthesia"; "Anesthesiology" were cross-referenced with the National Library of Medicine (PubMed MEDLINE), Scientific Electronic Library Online (SCIELO), Ebscohost, Google Scholar, and Virtual Health Library (VHL) databases. Results and Discussion: A significant portion of the articles indicated a correlation between spinal anesthesia, its positive points, and some possible complications. In addition, other articles addressed general aspects of the theme, such as the use of digital media to obtain information and the correlation between perioperative factors and surgical prognosis. Conclusion: It was possible to see that spinal anesthesia, even with some reservations, is a safe and beneficial procedure to perform surgeries and, consequently, to offer a quality and safe service to the patient.
