摘要:Oral Candidiasis is one of the most common fungal infections in the oral cavity. It occurs due to the growth of the members of Candida species, especially C. albicans. It is a member of the normal microflora of the mouth. Improper oral hygiene causes the growth of this bacteria and leads to the condition. The aim of this study is to assess the type and growth of Candida species in the removable dentures worn by the population of Chennai. Materials and methods: 50 denture wearing patients who visited the Department of Prosthodontics of Saveetha Dental College were selected in this study. Samples were taken from their dentures and were cultivated in Candida Differential Media and relevant data like age, gender and food choices were recorded. The number of colonies of different Candida species were counted and analysis of the result was done in SPSS by statistical tests. Result: Out of the 50 patients, 6 were positive for C.albicans only, 14 were positive for only other species of candida and 10 were positive for both C.albicans and other species of candida. It was seen that in patients with C.albicans and patients with other candida species, the frequency of candida colonisation decreased with age(p>0.05)(p>0.05). This study however can be performed with a larger population to solidify the results.
