摘要:Amnesia is a intense memory loss that is usually caused either by physical injury to the brain or by the ingestion of a toxic substance that affects the brain. The extensive impact of this condition mean that individuals with amnesia usually require assistance in daily life. In addition, the memory loss can be caused by a traumatic, emotional event, shock, illness or sometimes induced by anesthesia. The aim of this study is to assess the awareness of amnesia among college students. This is a questionnaire-based study. A questionnaire was prepared with questions pertaining to amnesia and their effects. The survey was conducted among college-going students in South India. The questionnaire was made through a survey planet link to all the participants. 100 students have participated in the survey.Out of the 100 study participants who took up the survey, 66% of the participants were aware of the term amnesia and about 60% of the participants were aware of the causes leading to amnesia. 67% of the participants believed that alcoholism could be a leading cause of amnesia. From the survey, it is evident that the knowledge and awareness of Amnesia is moderate. Hence, further awareness of amnesia should be created through educational programs and other interventions to improve the management of patients with amnesia across the spectrum of clinical care.
