  • 摘要:Background: Pets come with some powerful mental health benefits . They have evolved to become acutely attuned to human behaviours and emotions. They play a key role in reducing stress , anxiety, depression, ease loneliness , encourage exercise and playfulness and even improve your cardiovascular health. Pets also provide valuable companionship for older adults. Perhaps most importantly a pet can add real joy and unconditional love to your life. The main aim of this survey is to find out whether pets have any role in reducing stress among dental students. Materials and methods: This is a cross sectional study conducted among the dental students through a questionnaire. The questionnaire composed of 10 questions which was circulated among the dental students . The sample size of the study was 100 and the results were tabulated accordingly. Result: The result of this survey reflected the effect on emotional stress among dental students due to pets . In the present study, a high amount which is nearly 50.9% of subjects feel that dogs are better stress busters than other animals like cats (10.3%),fish(12.9%) and birds(13.8%). Almost (89.2%) of the subjects feel that spending time with their pets helps to reduce their stress level . Conclusion: From this survey it is so evident that pets, especially dogs are very good stress busters. Further study has to be done in order to understand the deep bond present between animals and humans.
