摘要:Kerala is considered by several substantial socio-economic, industrial, and political individualities. Kerala offers a conducive environment for setting up any industry. Protruding sectors in Kerala are information technology, tourism, and agro-based business including food processing, readymade garments, mining, ayurvedic medicines, etc. The key sectors that contribute to the GDP of the state are rubber, coir tourism, food processing, and chemicals and fertilizers. As of 2019, there are 1774 food processing units in Kerala. It provides 35 percent of revenue from export. The food processing sector gains Rs. 9000 crores from export and has a potential to become Rs. 50,000 crores worth of industry. The food processing industry is significant to the Kerala economy on account of its influence on food requirements. The food processing industry provides employment opportunities and is highly labour intensive which is suitable for organised on a home scale itself. The importance of this sector is further enhanced by the fact that 70 percent of the population depends upon agricultural activities for livelihood. Kerala is consecrated with natural resources. Kerala has several fruits and Vegetables which are seasonal. In specific seasons there is an abundant supply of fruits and vegetables but in other seasons, there is a glaring scarcity. There is a wide gap between the availability and requirement of fruits and vegetables in the state. Kerala is considered a consumer-based state, dependent upon neighboring states for the food requirement, it is very unfortunate. Here comes the requirement of processing.
