摘要:Introduction & Sleep-related problems are one of the most important issues affecting public health among medical students. Inadequate sleep quality can lead to impaired daily functioning. The aim of this study was to investigate the sleep quality of medical interns and its relationship with the arbitrary use of stimulants or hypnotics. Materials and Methods: In this cross-sectional study, 104 medical interns in the second semester of 2019-2020 were included in the study. In order to evaluate the sleep quality and sleep pattern of the research samples, the Persian version of the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) was used. Demographic and clinical data were collected using a checklist. Data were analyzed using statistical software. Results: The average PSQI score was 7.31 among the studied samples. 74.0% of students had poor sleep quality, and 68.2% of the students consumed medications arbitrarily. There was a statistically significant relationship between sleep quality and age group (P = 0.007), gender (P = 0.047), place of residence (P <0.001), grade point average (P = 0.010), marital status (P = 0.018), number of night working hours (P <0.001), use of hypnotic drugs (R = 0.406 and P < 0.001), use of sedative drugs (P = 0.019), sleep deprivation due to occupational (P < 0.001) and non-occupational reasons (P <0.001), and type of medications used (P = 0.039). Conclusion: Most of the studied samples suffered from poor sleep quality. Therefore, to control and prevent the complications of sleep deprivation, a centralized program under the supervision of a psychiatrist is recommended to improve the quality of sleep in these students.
