摘要:Introduction : Drug is any biological substance , artificial or natural , that is , ingested for unhealthy needs. Substance abuse which is popular with the name of drug abuse is a patterned use of a drug in which the user consumes the substance in amounts or with methods which are harmful to themselves or others. The dentist must be aware of this drug use in their individual patients to avoid possible contraindications during dental treatment. Objective : The aim of the present study is to assess the knowledge, attitude and practice of dental professionals towards substance use. Materials And Methods : A modified 24 questionnaire was formulated and distributed among the study. The participants were asked to fill the questionnaire . The survey was done on an online platform. A total of 107 validated entries were collected. Data was entered into Microsoft Excel 2007 and analysed in SPSS V20. Descriptive statistics were expressed by means of frequency and percentage. Independent t test was used to compare the mean difference between undergraduate and postgraduate students. Results :In our study it was found that 62 % of the participants were below 30 years old ; 38 % were above 30 years old. 58 % participants were male ; 42 % were female. 46 % have completed their undergraduate and 54 % were postgraduate. 48 % were teaching professionals ; 52 % were non teaching practitioners . 52 % of the participants think that alcohol addiction causes more problems in society than drugs . 48 % think all drugs are equally harmful . 70 % participants think that usage of drugs leads to physical and psychological imbalance. Around 26 % participants think that drug addicts are victims and drug addicts are criminals. 74 % participants think that not all drugs have oral manifestations . 74 % of the participants encounter participants under drugs. 76 % of the participants were somewhat confident on identification of drug abuse. Conclusion :The difference between mean knowledge, attitude score and educational qualification was found to be statistically not significant. Even though there existed no significant difference between the variables, postgraduate students had a slightly higher mean attitude and knowledge score than undergraduates.
