摘要:BACKGROUND: The most important decision one ever makes in their life is setting their career. Dentistry is one of the stressful fields. Stress has a deleterious effect on academic performance. Dental graduates in private dental institutions were widely acknowledged as associated with very high levels of stress. The purpose of the study was to investigate the parental stress and academic performance of final year dental graduates in private dental institutions. MATERIALS AND METHODS: In a cross sectional design, a modified dental environmental stress questionnaire was presented to final year dental graduates. The questionnaire was based on ongoing stress and parental stress in their final year of UG programme. The data were analysed by using statistical software statistical package of social science (SPSS). The probability value p < 0.05 is considered as significant. RESULT: A total of 178 undergraduate dental students constituted the study sample. According to the survey it shows the final year dental undergraduates have a high perceived level of stress. This survey shows that they have a high level of fear about unemployment and becoming a successful dentist. CONCLUSION: The study indicates that the congenial environment needs to be created for dental education and parents should be counselled that they should not force their children to join an educational programme that is not of their own interest or choice.
