摘要:Introduction: Acute myocardial infarction is an event caused by ischemia in cardiomyocytes and, depending on the injury's extension, it can lead to significant and possibly fatal heart’s dysfunction. The present study aims to evaluate hospitalizations for acute myocardial infarction in the brazilian territory between January 2012 and December 2021. Methodology: An epidemiological, descriptive, quantitative and retrospective study, whose data submitted to secondary analysis were collected in the SUS’s System of Hospital Information (SIH/SUS). Results and discussion: In the analyzed period, 1.103.858 hospitalizations for acute myocardial infarction were registered throughout Brazil. In this time interval, the pattern of the total number of hospitalizations throughout Brazil was predominantly increasing. The total number of hospitalization’s distribution according to the Brazilian territory happened as follows: the Northern region accumulated 45,717 hospitalizations (4.1%), the Northeast 217,909 (19.7%), the Southeast region 548,239 (49.7%), the Midwest 76,017 (6.9%) and South of Brazil 215,976 (19.6%). The Northeast region had the highest mortality rate, followed by the North and Southeast. There was a predominance of males and the age group from 60 to 69 years. The money spending in 2021 with hospitalizations for acute myocardial infarction exceeds half a million reais. Conclusion: there was a growing increase in total number of hospitalizations, with a high concentration in the Southeast region, but higher mortality rate in the Northeast, with a predominance of males and sixty-year-olds, at high costs for the health system throughout Brazil.
