摘要:Objective: to describe the self-perception of health of overweight women and to verify its association with sociodemographic, clinical and lifestyle variables. Cross-sectional study carried out in a reference obesity clinic in Salvador-BA, with 101 women interviewed using specific instruments and undergoing clinical evaluation. Data were analyzed descriptively and using inferential statistics. The mean age was 47.8 years (sd = 9.0 years). Black race/color predominated (93.1%), high school education (57.4%), marital status without a partner (51.5%), family monthly income ≤ three minimum wages (87.0%), obesity grade III (31.7%), presence of 1 to 2 comorbidities (62.4%), mainly arterial hypertension (61.4%). As for self-rated health, 55.4% classified it as regular, 24.8% good and 11.9% poor. There was a statistically significant association between self-perceived health and physical activity, alcohol consumption and identification of the consequences of being overweight for life. The high prevalence of negative self-rated health is worrisome considering that it is strongly associated with morbidity and mortality.
