摘要:The in vitro study considered the effects of CLINPRO XT and FLUROSHIELD sealants in preventing demineralization in dental enamel in the region circumscribed to orthodontic brackets, through microhardness and scanning electron microscopy. Sixty crowns of bovine teeth were used, randomly divided into groups(n: 20): G1 (brackets/control), G2 (brackets/CLINPRO) and G3 (brackets/FLUROSHIELD). The samples were submitted to cariogenic challenge (DES/RE), reviewed for Knoop microhardness (25 g, 10 s), on the surface of the dental enamel, from the bracket at distances of 1,000 μm, 2,000 μm and 3,000 μm and 100 μm, 200 μm, 300 μm and 400 μm at the in-depth interface, in the incisal and cervical directions. SEM images were obtained from the surface in the cervical region. The results analyzed by ANOVA and Tukey statistical tests (p0.05). CLINPRO sealant showed the highest microhardness and effectiveness values when compared to the control and FLUROSHIELD sealant groups. It was concluded that sealants were more effective in preventing enamel demineralization in regions closer to the brackets and less effective in more distant regions. The chemical composition and properties of the sealant interfere with its action to reduce demineralization of tooth enamel.
