摘要:Objective: To describe the experience of nurses in caring for women in the labor and birth process in Colombia. Method: Qualitative research on Thematic Oral History, carried out from March 2018 to December 2019 through interviews with 12 nurses who work in the obstetric area in different health and higher education institutions in a city in the south west of Colombia and analyzed through thematic content analysis. Results: Three categories were found: The role, feeling and knowledge of nursing in caring for women in the process of pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum in Colombia; changes in care for women in the process of delivery and birth, and strategies for care for pregnant women, unveiling the trajectory of nurses' activities in the care of women at risk, the laws that impacted their direct participation and the provision of care integral, being a qualified professional to work in the obstetric area. Conclusion: The nurses identify strengths and weaknesses in the care of women in the pregnancy-puerperal cycle and propose strategies for care, in addition to recognizing the importance of using good practices in favor of humanized childbirth.
