摘要：Se presenta una investigación heráldica e histórica del único escudo de armas que se conserva en el Castillo de San Severino, fortaleza permanente abaluartada que comenzó a construirse en 1693 en ocasión de la fundación de la ciudad de Matanzas, Cuba, para la protección del puerto y nueva población. Para establecer su origen y simbología, se realizó un análisis documental y basado en un conjunto de evidencias se revela que el escudo presente en el frontispicio de la fortaleza es de confección local y representa al linaje de un caballero de la Orden de Santiago; pudiendo corresponder al blasón de Severino de Manzaneda, gobernador que comenzó e impulsó su construcción entre 1693 y 1695. De este estudio, además, surgen varias hipótesis sobre la fecha de realización y montaje del blasón, que pudieran responderse a través de un estudio arqueológico más detallado.
其他摘要：Here we provide a historical investigation on the surviving coat of arms at Castillo de San Severino, a colonial fortification in Matanzas city, Cuba, which began construction in 1693 for the protection of the bay and the foundation of the city there settled. Through primary documents, we provide an analysis to help explain the history and heraldry of the coat of arms located on the main entrance of this fortification. We consider that the current coat of arms was carved on local rock by an untrained carver, and its symbology likely represents that of Severino de Manzaneda, the governor who started and supported the construction of the Castillo. These new data prompted several hypotheses that explain its symbology and time of mounting that require further archaeological testing. This new information is directed at a better understanding of the piece for future conservation.
