  • 摘要:Teaching strategies perform a great role in students’ learning at every levelof education.This paper presents achievement in English writing skillsand the practices of teaching used by teachers.Under Mixed-method,Sequential exploratory design was chosen for this study.Sample wasselected from private schools of Lahore city offering Secondary SchoolCertificate.Four private schools were selected through purposivesampling technique.In each school one section of SSC was selected assample.Teachers and students of the selected classes were included insample.Research instruments comprised of interview protocol andachievement test.Interviews were conducted to explore the teachingstrategies for developing writing skills.Essay type test was developed andadministered to students to measure the English writing skills.Test wasdeveloped by using intended learning outcomes of curriculum of Englishlanguage.Criteria for developing rubrics for scoring of test was based onthe students’ intended learning outcomes from curriculum of SSC.Findings revealed that for developing writing, teachers frequently uselecture, questioning, feedback, self-review and pair work.Test resultsshowed that writing skills of students are not much developed.They relyon textbook as an important resource.Teachers do not give emphasis onstudent centered methods for teaching writing because it takes much time.
