  • 摘要:There is currently a growing concern about the demands for water supply as the population is con- stantly growing. Drinking water production requires energy and chemicals and their production contributes to in- creasing the carbon footprint of the environment. [1. 2.3.41. The obiective of this study is to calculate the carbon footprint of the two water treatment plants under study as well as to establish correlations be- tween the main factors that lead to the increase of the carbon footprint and finally some measures will be drawn to reduce their carbon footprint. Bacau water treatment plant treats a volume of water of approximately 12.096.000 m3/year and gen- erates approx. 367,207.39 kg COzeq, the carbon footprint of the water treatment plant being 0.030 kgCOzea/m?. On the other hand the Turin water treatment plant treats a volume of water of approx. 39.799.801.00 m3/year and generates approx. 8.452.236.92 kgCOzeq, the carbon footprint of the water treatment plant being 0.212 kgCOzeq/m3. Both water treatment processes are within the category of processes with low medium impact on the environment because they do not exceed the value of <1 kg COzeq/kg [51. Following the calculation of the Carbon Foot- print on each water treatment plant, the difference in COzeg emitted into the atmosphere can be expressed in the amount of electricity that is used to treat Im of water. Another aspect that can explain these dif- ferences would be the type or mix of energy used in the process, we can consider this factor as an im- portant one that contributes significantly to the dif- ference of COzeq generated in the tow water treat- ment plants, because they are in different countries.
