摘要:Ethno zoological records show that ladybird beetle (Brumoides saturalis) has been used to cure different disease like cancer, diabetes, and inflammation in different ways. But up-to-date no scientific study has been done to find out these activities. This study has been designed to find out the in vitro and in vivo anti-inflammatory activity of B.saturalis aqueous extract (BSAE).The in vitro study included RBCs hypotonic as well as heat induced assays. In both cases, the BSAE with the same concentrations were used to study the effect in a dose dependant way.The inhibitory effect of BSAE was less pronounced in the heat-induced hemolysis assay as compared to hypotonicity assay. For in vivo study xylene was used as an inflammation-causing agent.Inflammation was induced in the right ear and left ear of each mice. The right ear treated with extract and standard diclofenac sodium (l-4mg/ml) and the left ear was treated with distal water as a negative control.BSAE used in various concentrations (l,2,3,and 4 mg/ear) have started inhibition of ear edema within an hour of the treatment. However, the maximum inhibition of ear edema was shown by 4 mg/ear of BSAE.The values for BSAE (4 mg/ear) were 25.71%,30.36 % and 42%,recorded at l,4,24 hours of treatment.Ears of each mouse were also weighted and compared with that of control in order to find out the %inhibition in-ear weight. The 1 mg/ear showed 21.32 % inhibition, while the maximum inhibition (44.91%) in-ear weight was shown by 4 mg/ear.The inhibition in ear weight was almost at par (46.81%) with that of the standard drugs (indomethacin),when used at similar concentrations. The results depict very clearly that BSAE has good anti-inflammatory activity, which may be further confirmed through clinical trials and experiments.
