摘要：In September 1952, the International Astronomical Union (IAU) met in Rome. The meeting was attended by 430 astronomers from 34 countries. 1 The inaugural ceremony took place in the historic palace at the Campidoglio on the Capitoline hill, and sessions were held in the building of the National Research Council near the Cittá Universitaria. The Vatican Observatory at Castel Gondolfo was visited in the course of the conference, and the degates were addressed by Pope Pius XII.
