摘要:Climate change is intrinsically linked to public health and nowadays ittaking a toll. A report published byWorld Bank titled “South Asia’s Hotspots: the impact of temperature andprecipitation change on living standard”, says that, more than 75 percent ofthe population will be adversely affected by rising temperature, and the rateof vector borne and other infectious diseases will increase. We, Bangladeshipeople, talk about climate change so often, probably, because we are living ina critical region on the earth where vector-borne diseases are emerging andreemerging. Climate change may lead to a greater spread of infectious diseases, like vector borne diseases, but the efforts to act accordingly are yet to bedone. Bangladesh is located inthe tropical monsoon region andits climate is characterized by high temperature, heavy rainfall, oftenexcessive humidity, and fairly marked seasonal variations. Consequently, we saw an increasingrate of vector borne diseases and, according to weather experts, it is known aseffect of climate variability. This study suggests that temperature and rainfall are significantlyassociated with chikungunya incidence in Bangladesh. Based on the findings, weconclude that the climate change plays a critical role in the transmission of chikungunyavirus.
