摘要:AbstractThis paper has evaluated the performances of the cities in terms of provision of basic sanitation facilities in the light of growing urbanisation and increasing population density in the cities. To evaluate this, a study has been conducted at the school level sanitation in three growing cities i.e. Delhi, Bangalore and Pune. Three indicators have been chosen to test the sanitation facilities such as drinking water supply (both quality and source), availability of toilet infrastructure and its use, and overall awareness of health, hygiene, social environment, sanitation curriculum, various projects on health and sanitation and health related policies in the schools. The schools surveyed are categorised under the ownership of public, private and funded by society or NGOs. It is found that private owned schools are relatively better off in terms of provision of basic sanitation facilities and its awareness among the school children. This shows that privatisation could be a policy to improve the basic sanitation facilities in the urban city centres
